Painting the kitchen will help bring a much-needed sparkle back to it. In some ways, painting the kitchen is an easier project than painting bedrooms or living rooms because the amount of wall space tends to be limited. Most of a kitchen is wall space is dominated by base cabinets, wall cabinets, and backsplashes. On the downside, the small area that remains to be painted usually needs extensive cleaning and prep work. For an unfurnished kitchen, use either a roller or a paint sprayer for the walls. For window and door trim, always use a brush. For a furnished kitchen, use a roller on the large expanses of wall and a brush for the little strips, such as between the backsplash and the cabinets.
Now that you have chosen your new cabinets, it is time to pick a color for your countertops. If you have chosen a kitchen with grey cabinets, you will have a range of different counters to choose from.Grey cabinets go with attractive tiles in bright colors such as aqua or red. You could also install a marble or granite counter top, which will create an attractive, monochromatic look to your kitchen, with the grey in your cabinets repeated in the veins or patterns in the stone.Alternatively, if you are looking for an industrial finish, steel or zinc countertops are a great choice.
For one thing, while it goes on smoothly, oil-based paint takes a long time to dry in between coats—up to 16 hours. Without good circulation (such as inside of a cabinet), waiting for the paint to dry can really become an issue. Keeping your cabinets emptied for days as you let the paint dry between coats can be a nuisance that many people are not willing to deal with. Latex paint, however, is ready for another coat in as little as two to four hours. This means you can easily paint in a day and put your kitchen back together pronto.
